I've added a list of links to the folks I buy stuff from. And that's it, really.

More markers

I've been using the markers, and they actually come in handy. We've stopped forgetting about morale checks for units having lost 25% of their members in the shooting phase, for example.

I played vs. Eldar yesterday, and decided to build some more markers to help with their psychic powers. They can be found in the Files section, here.

40K markers

When we first started I bought the Warhammer 40K Counter Set. The counters are nice and all, however in practice I've found a number of issues with them (all of them down to my personal tastes and lack of experience with the rules):

  • They don't stack, so have to be kept loose in a bag or box. Which makes it a problem to quickly find the one needed.
  • They're transparent, and the markings themselves are not easy to see – mostly an issue with the shaken / stunned counters.
  • It also takes time to figure out which counters are which for the vehicle speeds (again while trying to quickly find the proper one).
  • Although they describe a state, the consequences are not immediate (well not if you don't know the rules that well).

With all this in mind, I decided to build my own. I went with 40mm bases – I've found cheap ply laser-cut ones at Fenris Games. They're thin (1.5 mm), stack up nicely and are easy to store, plus it's quite quick to go through them and find the right one during play. Alternatively the counters could be printed on heavy card.

The counters show the condition in the centre, and any relevant rules above and below. I made them slightly larger than 40mm, so it's easier to position them on the bases. I've got 2 PDFs of them in the Files section, here and here.
